Rakhmat Ari Wibowo is a PhD student focusing on bridging the gap between evidence and practice in promoting physical activity (PA) within university settings. Recognising the well-established benefits of PA for physical health, mental wellbeing, academic and work performance, Ari’s work addresses the current challenge of low PA participation among students and staff—due to implementation barriers in PA promotion programmes.
Building on insights from his qualitative research with stakeholders in the UK and Indonesia (Phase 1) and a global scoping review that produced an implementation framework (Phase 2), he is now co-creating a user-friendly toolkit (Phase 3) with five Indonesian universities to support the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of PA programmes.
The toolkit, due for completion in April 2025, will be pilot-tested post-PhD and adopted by Indonesia’s Health Promoting Universities Network. Ari plans to expand and adapt it for the UK context, complementing existing frameworks and enabling universities to take practical, informed steps toward building active, healthy campus communities.
