Project Team Details

Dr Yanchao Yu is an Assistant Professor of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Computing, Engineering, and the Built Environment (SCEBE). As Recruitment and International Lead for the Computer Science group, he develop global partnerships and international recruitment strategies. He also lead the MSc Computing with Professional Placement, supporting international students’ transition into the UK job market.
Dr Yu’s research focuses on Conversational AI, Human-Robot Interaction, and Multi-modal Intelligence. He leads the EPSRC-funded LoCS project on collaborative storytelling for visual scene understanding and co-investigate the British Council-funded INSPIRE project for international academic collaborations.
With over 30 peer-reviewed publications and awards, including recognition in the Amazon Alexa Prize, he actively contribute to AI research. Dr Yu serves in leadership roles for major conferences and review for top AI journals. As an FHEA Fellow, he teach Machine Learning, Data Analytics, and Software Development, emphasizing hands-on, research-driven learning.
